UZ and Machine Drum at 1015 Folsom (3/8) – San Francisco

MELT2Truly lucky are we who were privileged enough to make our way to 1015 Folsom St last night, a beautiful March evening in San Francisco. Like so many others, we were looking for a spectacular way to dance our Friday night away, and that is just what we found at 1015 last night. The name of the event was MELT, and Machinedrum was the main attraction, as far as I was concerned. MELT was slated to be a big night at 1015- the VJ visuals were touted as 3D- and the DJs were all spinning their Friday night best. Though we did unfortunately miss the Beats Antique side project, between UZ and Machinedrum, there was no going wrong.

Getting a late start to the night at around 10:30 we stopped off at Cantina on Sutter st for our traditional pre-event pregame- a great time as usual. From there, we walked the mile or so to the venue at 1015 Folsom, where the enigmatic trap producer, UZ, had just begun his set. UZ2Z Fresh off the release of his latest Balltrap Muzic release, his set was in full swing within moments of starting up. He sprung the trap on the crowd, and the crowd fell right in. I couldn’t stop dancing if I had wanted to. So we danced and meandered our way through the crowd, exchanging opinions and positive vibes with strangers left and right. After speaking to the crowd, it was clear what kind of night tonight was:

Yet still, like us, the people who stuck it out until the end of the night were those who were there to see Machinedrum. Machinedrum has been on the scene for a long time now, beginning to produce electronic music before even graduating from high school. His production credits include a swathe of artists, but the credit which stands out the most was his mixing of Theophilus London’s ‘This Charming Mixtape.’ Machinedrum is involved in so many side projects, and so eclectic in his own right, that I had no idea what kind of set he would spin; I was ecstatic to see that it was a hyphy mix of originals and remixes, and knew no genre boundaries (my kind of show!)

We danced like wild people until the music cut out around 2:15 before the closing DJ would come on to spin, an occurrence which clearly did not please our gracious headliner. It didn’t please the crowd either, but after a moment of surprise, both the audience and Machinedrum showed gratitude for having been able to be a part of the night. All in all, it was a very good night, so who’s really complaining? Next time, though, 1015, let the headliner finish doing his thing! It was the last song of an absolutely killer set! The closing act kept us grooving until we decided to make our way back out onto the streets of SF and share the love, and share it we did. To all of the wonderful people we met last night, it was awesome to meet you, and we hope you had as good of a time as we did. To 1015, UZ, and Machinedrum, thanks for the space and the music- what a night! Til’ next time, Vibe Right, friends.
